Can You Make Money Selling Natural Products With a Direct Selling Company?

Are you looking for natural, non-toxic products to sell from home? With the popularity of all natural products it's no surprise I'm seeing more keyword searches on Google for natural products.

As people become more health conscious and seeking chemical-free products, this is a great opportunity for you to sell natural products from home. With easy access to the internet and popularity of social media, starting a home-based business has never been more affordable or easier.

If you love natural products and looking for a business in this area to work from home, here are some things to consider before you get started.

Why consider partnering with a direct selling business?

The direct selling business has been around for decades with established and respected companies such as Avon and Mary Kay Cosmetics. These companies are true pioneers for the younger direct sales companies.

As with any type of business, whether or not you can make money selling natural products or any product is up to you. You need to know if you're willing to talk about your products; will you network so you can meet more people? You'll need to meet with people that want to see the products or hear more about your business.

The problem that many people get themselves into and I've done this in the past is thinking that loving the products is all there is to be successful.

There are a lot of things I love including clothes, jewelry, home decor but I know to sell these products I would have to hold "parties" in order to have any kind of success. Knowing that I don't enjoy hosting parties or asking people to host parties, it doesn't matter that I love these products, because the party plan format is not a good fit for me.

It's critical to know what you're willing to do to grow your business otherwise you'll be choosing the wrong business for you.

If you love natural products and want to start selling them, make sure you love the products but find out what type of monthly requirements are expected from you.

Here's an example from a friend who signed up for a bath and body products company because she loves the products. Immediately she shared with everyone she knew and signed up a couple consultants. She loved the products so much she never looked at how she was going to get paid other than the retail profit. She hasn't earned a dime from her team members because she personally has to sell $500 a month.

That may not sound like a lot for a traditional retailer but as direct sales consultants that's at least 2+ parties a month before you'll earn from your team's efforts. And 2 parties a month is easy when you're brand new and friends are willing to help you out but you need to think in terms of months ... what happens after I've already asked my friends, and a friend's friend?

Ask yourself:

Am I willing to hussle to get more parties booked?
Am I willing to supplement by doing online parties, hand out catalogs, do vendor boutiques, and do whatever it takes to hit those monthly requirements?

It's not something a lot of people think about because they're so caught up in the amazing products. I know because I've been there! But if you're serious about starting a business and making business income, not hobby money, than you need to plan long-term.

So you see, instead of asking if you can make money with a direct selling company, understand what you need to achieve each month, and decide if you're willing to put in the work.

Not all natural direct selling companies have high monthly volume so do your due diligence and choose a product line and company that's the best match for you!

Verefina-New Direct Sales/Home-Based Company

Verefina is a new direct sales/home-based company opening its doors to the direct selling industry 2012 and we're welcoming new consultants nationwide!

The direct selling business has come a long way. It's no longer the door-to-door Avon ladies or the pink cars dropping off beauty products. You could say it's Avon of the 21st century - incorporating social selling through various online mediums as well as traditional direct marketing through word-of-mouth. This personal relationship marketing is one of the main reasons why the direct sales business model is thriving!

Verefina story is compelling as you'll find with most direct sales companies. Think Mary Kay who started making beauty products from her own kitchen decades ago and led the way for young companies like Verefina today. Like Mary Kay Cosmetics, Jennifer Lugo, Founder/CEO of Verefina, has a compelling story too.

Verefina was founded by Jennifer Lugo. When Jen was expecting her third child, she became aware of the toxic additives in many of the popular commercial products she was planning to use on her new baby. Her concern led her to research product options - which were extremely limited - and to discover and create her own special, natural remedies and formulas. Jen's creations caught the attention of family and friends and their families and friends, and soon became essentials in many homes. As a result, Verefina was born.

Jen has joined with a dynamic business team to expand and offer her wholesome skin and body care products to people all across the country. The company is entering an exciting growth phase where Verefina products are now distributed through a group of Independent Consultants.

I've always been a huge fan of truly natural, non toxic products for myself and my family, but I also wanted to partner with a direct sales company that offers affordable products for everyone. Verefina definitely fits the profile and attracted my attention right away. High quality natural products shouldn't cost in the hundreds. Verefina has come into my life at the right time and I'm so excited to share these amazing products and home-based business opportunity!

My mission and passion is the same as Jen's - to share safe and natural beauty and wellness products to women and their families - and helping people use natural products and building a business from home.

If you're interested in trying the products, please email me for free samples. If you'd like more info on how to join Verefina at the ground floor with less than 100 consultants nationwide, email me: Janette at campopfan@gmail.com

Product Reviews: Celadon Road Green Products

As long as I've had this blog, I've never done a product review for a direct sales company. This isn't what this blog is about but I love natural/green products and it seems fitting to do my first review on Celadon Road.

When Chanelle Brennan, Director at Celadon Road, asked if I would like to review some products for her. I was upfront and said I've never done it before but I would be happy to try the products and give my readers an honest feedback.

Here's some background info on the company:

Celadon Road is dedicated to promoting greener, healthier and more socially responsible living by offering our customers the highest quality natural, eco-friendly products for their everyday needs.  In following our mission, we inspire individuals to discover and explore their shade of green and to purchase with a purpose. We strongly believe if we all make small changes toward a greener lifestyle, collectively we can have a profound impact on our world.

The three products I received from Chanelle were:

#1 Lavender Eucalyptus All Purpose Cleaner

I was especially excited to use this all purpose cleaner because Lavender and Eucalyptus are some of my favorite scents. I'm a sucker for all things that smell like lavender! I've been using 7th Generation for years so I was excited to see how this compares to 7th.

The price point is competitively priced ($6 for a 24 oz bottle) considering it's all natural, organic ingredients. If there's one area in your home I would recommend using all natural products is your kitchen. It's where you do the cooking and if you have kids like I do- I cringe at the thought of spraying my counter tops where I make snacks and food for my family with toxic chemicals.

I really liked this cleaner- the scent is subtle and refreshing and it's not bad on the tough stains I had on my stove. I would say it's comparable with 7th Generation so it definitely has 2 thumbs up from me!

#2 Fruit and Vegetable Wash

I must be honest and say I've never pre-washed my fruit and vegetables so I don't have anything to compare Celadon's product with other than that I've been pre-washing my fruit with this and rinsing it with tap water. When you spray this on your fruit, it feels slimy at first, but rinses off nicely. I'm a fan of buying organic fruits especially apples, strawberries , and other fruits that are heavily sprayed with pesticides. If you're not one to buy organic fruits, I think pre-washing your fruit and vegetables would be a safe bet against exposure to pesticides. It's $9 for a 16 oz bottle which I think will lasts for a while.

#3 Stain Remover

Another handy product to have around is this 24 oz. stain remover, another good product at $6. I purposely tested this with a small sample of spilled Gatorade and it did a really good job of removing the stains. I'd be curious to know how it works on old stains- anyone?

Overall, I give thumbs up for all three products! I love natural, safe products- it's good for people and for our environment. At these prices, definitely visit Chanelle's website and give it a try.

The only thing I would say about the website is that it was a bit overwhelming. There are a lot of great looking green products to try but sifting through them will take a while. Some people love variety and some like me who like a few, staple options. Fortunately, that's where Chanelle's personal services comes in, so give her a shout out!

How to reach Chanelle Brennan - Celadon Road Director:

Would love to hear your personal testimony if you've used these products yourself. Share your comments with us!

Best,

Janette

**Disclosure**  I received these products complimentary from Chanelle Brennan. This is an unbiased review based on my personal opinion from using the products. I was not compensated in any way in reviewing these products other than the products given to me.

Considering Selling Natural Skin Care, Personal Care Products?

It's a fact that the beauty, health and wellness industry is a hot market because we all want to age beautifully. Skin care alone is a billion dollar business. There's a reason experts believe beauty is a recession proof industry.  That said, not all beauty products are created equal- far from it. And not all of them are affordable. If you're looking to sell natural personal care products, there are some things to consider before you venture into this billion dollar business.

First, decide if you're going to make natural products yourself or partner with a direct sales, home-based business as an independent consultant.

If you're going to make the products yourself, you'll need to decide the type of products and niche because there's a wide range of different types of skin care and personal care products. In addition to finding wholesale suppliers to buy raw ingredients, you'll need to set up your business basics such as seller's permit, tax ID, business license, packaging your products, come up with a business name, and so forth. You'll also need to market your business, set up a website online, marketing budget, and put a business plan together on how to reach your target market.

If you're like me and love the idea of having your own natural personal care business but don't want to start everything from scratch and spending thousands of dollars to get started, consider partnering with a direct sales/home-based company. There are hundreds of skin care, personal care products to choose from and you can easily find one that's right for you. You might be wondering why would I do that?

Consider these benefits when you join forces with a direct sales company instead of starting a business on your own:

Most direct sales companies offer a low start up fee- anywhere from $99 and up and typically comes with products ready for you to showcase. You'll also get a company e-commerce website, catalogs, business guides, and all the training you'll need to be successful. It's the perfect "business in a box"- ready for you to get start the moment you sign up as a consultant.

Even if you decide selling natural personal care products isn't for you, you get to keep the products, so there's nothing to lose. In fact, you'll actually have gained a lot on how to be an entrepreneur, what it takes to succeed working on your own, and other valuable business skills that will help you if you decide to venture on your own in the future. Direct sales is more than just a business but for those that take it seriously and take advantage of all the free training, the experience can be life changing!

I hope this article has helped you weigh the pros and cons on whether to start your own natural personal care products. If you decide to partner with a direct sales company, I invite you to take a look at joining the company I've partnered with and see why I'm so passionate about sharing the health benefits of choosing non toxic products. The products are all natural/organic, high quality, and affordable. It's a business you can feel good to share with others!

3 Important Recent Articles on Toxic Chemicals in Skin Care and Personal Care Products

Here are 3 recent important and eye-opener articles on the latest research on toxins and how they affect us! I have to be honest I'm not one of those fear mongering type of people but given that there are awesome all natural and organic products without toxins that deliver results and affordable ... why not give non toxic products a try? Just my two cents :).

Ground Floor Direct Sales Opportunities: Is it for You?

Whether to join ground floor direct sales opportunities or not is always a hot debate. Some direct sales consultants that joined ground floor business opportunities only to see it shut down might opt for a more established company in their next venture. I think it really comes down to the individual. There are clear benefits to joining new companies versus established ones.

Randy Gage, a well-known network marketer, said in one of his blog posts that you can make some money with an established company that has been around for decades but you'll never build a massive team like the "early adopters". The early adopters are the consultants that joined during the ground floor phase and grew their teams to hundreds and thousands of consultants.

It's not easy weighing the pros and cons of ground floor opportunities because finding the "it" company is the holy grail of the direct selling business. With new companies launching all the time, how do you know which one is right for you?

If you like predictability and want a sure thing, I don't recommend a ground floor opportunity, because there will be growing pains with every new company. But if you like new challenges, being at the forefront, working with the company at the early stages of development, being an "early adopter" as Randy Gage said, then joining a new company might be a perfect for you.

You must know what you want and what you can and cannot handle. I'm a go with the flow kind of person and a risk taker by nature so newness is exciting to me. But I also wouldn't take on a new company unless it has potential in the marketplace.

What I find the most exciting and potentially lucrative with ground floor opportunities is being the first consultant to share and spread the business to others. Particularly if the company offers products that I'm passionate about sharing.

It's also refreshing not having to compete with hundreds or thousands of already existing consultants. I know some might disagree with me on saturation but it's a fact that if there are dozens of consultants selling the same jewelry, handbags, skincare, make-up, or home decor for the same company ... the share of the pie is going to be smaller.

This is one of the reasons CAbi, a high end direct sales clothing company limits the number of consultants per area. When there are too many consultants that are actively building the business in one area, sales will be affected as well as recruiting new consultants.

I don't think there are right or wrong answers when it comes to whether or not someone should join a ground floor direct sales company. What you should be asking instead: if being with a brand new company is right for YOU.

There are clear benefits: being one of the first consultants, an early adopter, with the ability to add new consultants and build a big business.

There are also disadvantages: dealing with the growing pains and challenges with every new company such as products being out of stock, corporate office not handling customer needs, lack of money to grow, lack of leadership, etc.

Instead of listening to the naysayers because they're everywhere, know what you want, trust yourself, do your research, and go with what feels right for you. After all, what is really a sure thing? Taking risks and go with whatever comes your way is the hallmark of a true entrepreneur.

What are your thoughts on ground floor business opportunities?

Chat soon,

Janette

P.S. If you're an entrepreneurial maverick and want to be an "early adopter"- email Janette at campopfan@gmail.com. There's a new all natural/organic product line you'll definitely want to hear more about!

Interested in Selling Natural, Organic Skin Care?

There was a time natural, organic products were sold only in health stores. Today natural, organic skin care, personal care, household, cleaning products are practically sold everywhere. The question is how natural are these products, just because it says so, is another story.

As more and more people and moms in particular are becoming conscientious when it comes to the products they're using on their children, they're embracing natural products, and spreading the natural message to their friends. It's not a surprise that many natural and organic companies are started by moms.

What this means for you is that the natural market is BIG business. If you love natural products and interested in selling ... here are some things to keep in mind:

Starting a home-based natural skin care and personal care business is relatively inexpensive. You can certainly make and sell your own products as there are plenty of do-it-yourself manuals and ebooks that you can buy and learn how to make these products yourself. The key to your success is having a variety of products and juggling the inventory.

If this isn't something you're experienced with or don't have the capital to get started- there are other options but I believe one of the best ways is to partner with a direct selling business.

Direct sales is an established business model and continues to bring in billions of dollars per year! In fact, I just saw a  marketing stats in this article: Whom Do Americans Trust When They Shop? and Friends was #1, followed by Brand's Website, and Online Reviews. It's not surprising as direct sales thrives on selling directly to people you know. Typically from women or men that attend shows or product presentations, they fall in love with the products, become shoppers, and tell others about it. Word of mouth marketing is powerful especially when shared among trusted friends!

The advantage for you when you partner with a direct sales company is the low start up cost! Some companies have special sign up specials and if your budget is tight look for those specials and sign up then. But on average, you can partner with a direct sales company for $99, a bit more or less.

Most of these "starter kits" come with a variety of products, catalogs, training guides, and an e-commerce website. The majority of the hard work in creating a business is already done for you. Think of it as a franchise but significantly cheaper and without all the financial hassles and big risks.

The key is finding a company with products you absolutely love, partner with an upline/mentor whom you like and would enjoying working with, and a company with a leadership team that cares about the consultants and customers. I also love a company that's social media savvy, a founder or CEO that actually gets involved in their company Facebook Page or Twitter and engages with the consultants and customers.

Direct sales has come a long way and thriving in this high tech era. If the direct sales company you're thinking of partnering with is still doing things from 1980- this can turn off a whole new generation of tech savvy people that may be looking at direct sales as a career choice.

If you're new to direct sales, I recommend getting more info on the DSA.org, Direct Selling Women's Alliance, or feel free to leave me a comment with any questions. Jen Fong Speaks, Julianne Jones, and Mary Christensen blogs offer great resources on direct selling. These are respected ladies in the industry so check out their blogs.

If you love natural and organic products, starting a business selling natural products that people use on a daily basis can be a potentially lucrative home-based business opportunity.
